How
to Use the Whole World As Your Child's Classroom (from
The Unschooling Handbook) Unschooling,
for us, is mindful living, free play, and exploration. It is letting go of
the schoolish “shoulds” and “oughts” and measuring sticks. We aim
to live more fully rather than manufacture educational experiences to fill
the gaps in our lives. Living this way requires a considerable amount of
trust and patience—Trust that children will learn what they need to
know without years of conventional instruction, and patience enough to let
them get to it in their own good time. ----Laura D To unschoolers, learning is as natural as breathing—as worthwhile for its worn sake, something that happens all the time, rather than in a specific place at a specific time according to a set schedule. Curiosity is a constant, not to be denied because the setting is not overtly educational or th topic does not fall into a familiar school category.---- by Mary Griffith |
