Flying Into the air

wen

PS: talking so much about my first perfect ski trip made me want to sky right now.
PPS: I forgot to tell you: "no broken bones, but sore mussels on the second day."

This past February, we went with Dad to Grenoble, France, where he did his research. We had wonderful 6 weeks there full of fun memory. One day, we went skiing with Dad's friends. I wasn't too sure about going until the day before, we went to the ski rental store and I saw a boy, just half of my size, about 3-4 year old, happily trying a tiny pair of skies. So, I thought to myself, "If he could do it, then I could too. That's why I decided to go.
On our way to the ski resort, we were nervous but excited, Mom even said, " We may come back frozen, starving, thirsty, deadly tired, with broken bones and can't move a mussel…. etc. But we were still determined to give it a try.

I'll tell you what happened, we were in the beginner group with a few very nice instructors. We first put on our ski shoes, and on a flat area, we learned to walk forwards and backwards with our skies on. One instructor showed us how to get up from the ground, then he said jokingly: "I propose that everybody falls" So we all did and practice how to stand up. It sure was a funny sight.

Then he took us to a slope, where we were taught to move uphill sideways like a crab, and ski down with some speed.
We each put our ski pass into the machine and took the ski lift way up to the high mountain area.

The lift ride was quite scary for me.But I saw some real amazing sights. Many skiers zooming down fast, dodging from bushes and trees.
Before we rode on the lift, someone offered to carry my poles for me, so I went on the lift without my poles. So when I got to the top, where there was a slope, the lift pushed me down the slope, but I have nothing to hold on to. Luckily, I glide down, scared but unhurt.

We ski-walked uphill from where we have fun ski downhill. After a few times, we took the rope lift, to the upper platform, and skied down. . We also practiced to ski downhill with no poles.
One time, when skiing downhill, I hit a lump of snow and fell close to the ground for a split second. But my skies were still straight and moving. I managed to straighten myself up without even stopping, and went on skiing down the rest of the slope. It was the most exciting experience of my day.
A few other times, I simply banged myself into the snow lump and leap into the air, then went on skiing.
After a while, I figured out how to turn myself around swiftly. Since then, I always skied down, made an L turn, and land myself perfectly in the waiting line.

This sure is one of the most exciting day of my trip in France. I had great great fun learning and loving to ski in the Alps, playing in the fluffy white snow. I really like to ski and it feels really good that I can do so much by myself.
